SENSORIMOTOR PSYCHOTHERAPY |
|
| Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a body-centered form of therapy. It is used to treat the effects both of trauma and of hurtful relationships. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is an expansion of traditional talk therapy and utilizes aspects of both Hakomi and Somatic Experiencing. | |
When we have an overwhelming experience (also called trauma) and cannot fight or flee to protect ourselves, we are left with the instinct to freeze. Years later we have feelings and thoughts that are still frozen in time. Part of us believes that the best way to be safe is to shut down. Utilizing Sensorimotor Psychotherapy the nervous system can move out of either a frozen or hyper state into a more flexible, relaxed way of being. |

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy also provides a detailed study of how we develop different character strategies to survive hurtful environments. Some children, for example, may learn to become self-reliant to survive neglect while others may find it necessary to become charming and manipulative to survive. Awareness of these strategies gives us a powerful way to transform how we relate to others. For more information go to www.sensorimotorpsychotherapy.com. |
